Our Mission
Why “LOVE IS KEY”?
Mattision Leatrice Haywood was a beautiful Christian young woman, a giver of her time and money to the underserved, the homeless, and the less fortunate. She was a talented artist, who at first pursued an art degree from California State University, Humboldt, and had a love for drawing, painting, sculpting, and sewing. She later pursued pre-med in her post graduate studies, and was attending Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science at the time of her death.
The Mattison L. Haywood “Love Is Key” Foundation is a non profit 501 (c)(3) foundation established in Mattison’s memory for everything she stood for in this life. Her passion for God was demonstrated in her desire to give of herself whenever called upon. She was a leader, an encourager, and a loving friend. The endowment funds will support the areas that were most important to Mattison when she lived. The words “Love Is Key” was her moniker on all her creative art work, notes to family and friends, her photos, and the many journals she wrote during her lifetime.
Scholarships
The Mattison L. Haywood Love is Key Foundation Annual Scholarship was established in 2015. It awards financial assistance to emerging high school seniors as well as rising post-secondary education students in multiple fields of study.
Homeless Outreach
We believe no one should have to live on the street or go hungry. Our staff, volunteers, and those we serve work together to address the effects of homelessness, poverty, mental and physical illness, abuse and addiction. Our mission is to empower the most vulnerable among us to improve their quality of life through direct and indirect assistance with shelter, food, and case management.
Community Support Programs
Our Community Support Programs partner with non-profit, local community organizations, and other stakeholders to go beyond traditional classroom instruction. We believe that education is a shared responsibility and is vital for the well-being of the entire community.
“Everytime I think over my life and see all the good God has done for me, I have so much joy overflowing from inside out! If you ever wonder why you were created, ask the Creator, and you will find out =). I’ve found that out for myself. I was created to make God’s praise glorious!”
— Mattison L Haywood (2001)
